War diaries in the footsteps of a brave young hero #4

30 may 2012

A few days have gone by since I last wrote in my journal. There has been so much going on. A robot almost snuck onto canadian soil last night. This certain robot has the ability to appear as anything it desires. It had taken the shape of a submarine along the Atlantic coast. Our navy spotted an unknown enemy submarine approaching the area. They managed to pull up some wired fencing along the shore. The robot was stopped and sent right back in his tracks. I received a letter from my wife, this afternoon. Receiving a letter from your loved one while away feels amazing. I miss my wife so much and I know it's only been six or seven days since I left home. I just  love her soo much. We have been together since the age of 14. We got married at 18, and were still together today at 22. We are strong, and so are my twin sons, both 3 years old which I am very blessed to have.
I forgot to mention the mission in Florida on the 28th. It was remarkable yet scary to watch at the same time. Every countries military force was up against a dozen robots. It was something else that's for sure. All equipped with LMG's, Rocket Launchers and Tanks we were able to defeat these robots. I was told that our plan is to start killing some of them, sending them a message that we are not a force to be reckoned with. Our military does not care how much force is necessary to destroy them. We must protect our country and end this ridiculous war. I was gunner on one of the missile tank's. The thrill I got after firing 3 lock on missiles directly at one robot was awesome. I watched him explode and spread out all over the place into scrap metal. We have come to conclusion that gun fire will not affect the robots but enough explosifs will do the job as I demonstrated the other day as the gunner. You know the war has gotten pretty serious when you have a supply technician, shooting million dollar missiles at deadly robots. Mission in florida was a success.Bravo team. Another day in paradise.

War diaries in the footsteps of a brave young hero #3

Day 3 at war. Unfortunately, this morning while we were boarding the helicopter, Corporal Samways accidentally fell from the helicopter. He is no longer with us.We have decided that we are now going to fight in his honour, to show our respects. There seems to have been mass destruction in the southern states of america. Robots were trampling through the city destroying everything in their path. There was a breakthrough on reasearch today when a German scientist discovered something very important. He currently holds part of the answer to the robots weakness. All scientists, world wide, were sent to Germany today to maximize efficiency and cut down on time. We must find a way to contain them here. If they have access to other countries they will have portals everywhere, allowing for more robots to enter our world. If we can build a weapon to contain them, we will destroy them one by one. I don't like these robots, they are messing with the wrong planet. I saw 2 of them today, when I was on patrol near a shelter for the homeless. I saw them from a far and warned everyone to get underground. We have arranged all buildings and houses possible with an escape lair underneath to hide from the robots. They can't sense you underground. At 1700h, we went back to camp and had supper. We started building our own underground lair in case of emergency. In the military, we know that we must be ready for anything. Something could happen at anytime and we're always on our toes ready to pounce. It was 2300h before we finished digging and then we set up camp. I got in my sleeping bag as soon as I could but then was interrupted by Sergeant Wilts. He came into our lair to imform us of a very important mission in Florida, tomorrow. There's no way I'm going to sleep tonight not knowing what this important mission could be. Why are we going to florida? It's going to be so hot in uniform down there this time a year.  Hopefully there isn't many robots and we can make a vacation of it while we're there. I guess I won't know till the morning, oh well. Time to pass out then. Another day in paradise buddy. Goodnight!

War diaries in the footsteps of a brave young hero #2

26 may 2012

Day number 2. There is no sign of improvement since yesterday. Military forces from all over the world are scattered strategically to attempt in containing these robots. They seem to possess super strength and are not affected by gun fire. At 1500h, our commander told us to retreat. They have too much potential and the possibility to ruin all of man-kind. Every move we make must be monitored closely to avoid any mistakes that could wipe our entire race. Top-secret labs all over the world are spending millions to find ways to take down these robotic creatures. Today, we were sent over to Boston to fix some issues such as people getting stuck in their houses when it collapsed. These's issues are considered minor in comparison to the rest of the States. Our biggest issue right now is to contain these robots, within the United-States. They have already done enough damage here, we don't want them moving up north to Canada. The incredible feeling I had when I saved people from their collapsed houses and they gave me a hug while thanking me for saving their lives. We're flying back to homeland right now to get some more supplies at headquarters, in Montreal. We're expected to be back in Boston at 800h. That only gives us 14 hours to get to Montreal, to do a full inventory supply check and then to fill the helicopters and planes, That's not it though, then we have to fly all the way back to Boston. That's all I'm going to write for tonight. Need to get a few minutes of shut eye before I'm hauling ass again. Another day in paradise Canada.

War diaries in the footsteps of a brave young hero #1

25 may 2012

3 months ago today I was ordered in to war. Today was my first day fighting for my country. This war is extremely large and has the potential to wipeout a vaste amount of population in every country of the world. I am only 22, years old and have never actually been to war. This war is happening all over the United-States as we speak. The only difference with this war is that the enemy is not human. They are some kind of robotic life form from an unidentified planet outside of our galaxy. Canada has no idea what kind of technologie is required to eradicate this life form. These robots are causing a lot of damage. They tend to want to damage historical monuments. It's as if they have something against them. This is really a gory war that most people could not handle. I will never give up. My country is what counts and maybe if you read this in 20 years you will know that I fought for your freedom.

I'm part of 36 service battalion, a unit in nova scotia. Within 36 service battalion, there are many occupations. Truck Driver, Maintenance and Repair, Supply Technician and Cooks. I am a Supply Technician. My job is to supply any soldier with whatever they may need, whenever they may need it. Today, we were in midtown New-York ground searching the area for clues , when all of a sudden we received a call from 1st field artillery ( Artillery unit also in nova scotia). They requested that we provide them with 300 rounds of ammo. That's 100 magazines fully loaded with 30 rounds per . We knew their area wasn't safe but an order is an order and we did our best. You should have seen the gunfire soaring over our heads as we cruised through the main gates and right into the line of fire.

Today, being my first day here, was an unreal unforgettable experience. I really hope I have what it takes to survive and go home to my wife and lovely kids. I love you Sharon, my lovely wife and my two boys, Eric and Ben.

This is a no-fail mission. You will acknowledge and accomplish the mission. End of discussion

Importance of military kit and following orders

What is an order?

An order is a command given by a superior military member requiring obedience, as in the execution of a task. In the military , when you are given an order , you have one choice , and that's to obey it. It is important to follow orders.

Why is it important to follow orders?

In the military , there is a chain of command. The chain of command is composed of all ranks, from lowest having no power and the highest, being in charge of all troops. Failure to obey a command is a chargeable offence. I am in no financial position to be paying a fine for something as simple as obeying someones command. It doesn't matter if you don't like the order, just bit your thumb and do it. If you can just get er done and not complain day after day, you will be rewarded at some point in time or you will be earning respect from everyone.

What is military kit?

Military kit is defined as all of the equipment you were issued when joining the canadian armed forces. The equipment being everything from next-to-skin items, uniforms, winter gear, field gear, boots  and anything else necessary for you to have as a soldier. This kit is issued to you by the queen, to get you equipped with all the necessary items to serve your country. These items (your kit) are borrowed to you only while serving in the military. It would be very expensive to try and buy every new soldier thousands of dollars worth of equipment especially in the reserves when you have no idea how long the individual might decide to serve. Your kit is very important, and it is very important that you bring all of it to training sessions.

Why is it important to bring all my kit to training? Why is kit important?

It's very important to bring all your kit to training , especially BMQ. BMQ is the very first step that civilians take into becoming a soldier. Every new civilian has no idea how to use all of their kit. The instructors on the course are there to show you how everything works. It's very important to bring it all, because if you were in a situation where you didn't know how to use a piece of kit it could cost your life or maybe even someone else's. Also, it's important to bring it all on training because you never know what could happen. You could get sent out in any weather. You could be spontaneously told that your course was going to the gas hut a week early. What if you hadn't brought that gas mask? You would be unable to pass your course which would result in you restarting the entire course. That's not worth it. I will bring it all, it can avoid a lot of issues. The staff also wants to make sure you were issued all of the kit that you signed for. You must be fully equipped to survive in all situations and all environments. Kit is important because if you know how to use it it could save your life. The saying is: Your kit can either save ya or fuck ya. For example, most people exposed to -30 degree  weather would be dead meat in a very short period of time. If you know how to use all of your kit you could easily avoid that dilemma.

Why am I writing this essay?

I was ordered to write this essay on 20 may 2012 by Master Corporal Butterworth  because my behaviour was unacceptable and a complete lack of respect. I failed to follow orders and bring all of my kit to training. At the very beginning of our training , we were told to bring every piece of kit issued to us by the queen. I decided that I was only going to bring what was necessary for that weekend. I didn't think that I was going to be able to fit all of my kit in 2 duffle bags and a ruck sack so I did what I thought was practical. I understand that I cannot do that. As I have been told in the past, we do not pay you to think! You will never win if you think you're being sneaky by trying to make things convenient for yourself. It may only be at a minor scale but that's where it all begins.

Following orders is mandatory in the military and failure to do so is a chargeable offence. No matter the importance of the order it must be followed. Following orders also instills discipline within the chain of command. The canadian military does not accept individuals who cannot follow orders. When you are told to do something by anyone of superior command you must do so and keep your mouth shut. Disobeying orders is not only a chargeable offence but it also shows great disrespect to your superiors. Obeying commands is crucial throughout every aspect of the forces and must be learnt at the start (BMQ). The CF must keep a good reputation in the publics eyes. If members are disobeying orders it shows signs of disorganization and non- professionalism. I must learn from my mistake and insure that I shall comply with all orders. I understand that failure to do so could result in much worst then a 1000 word essay , such as a fine. I am also in no financial state to be paying fines when all I have to do is  obey orders and keep my mouth shut. I always like to mention this: If your corporal, master corporal, sergeant, warrant officer, master warrant officer, chief warrant officer, or any commissioned officer tells you to jump, you say : How high do you want me to jump(Rank)? When I entered the forces, I knew and had been told, that one of my obligations as a soldier was to obey all orders. I am fully aware of this obligation. Disobeying an order could be seen in a way that you put yourself before your country. The military is strong on it's values , and it states that it goes in this order. Your country, your fellow troops, and then yourself. The punishments that could result from demonstrating the inability to put your country first could be severe and possibly job threatening in extreme cases.

I've had enough time to reflect about the importance of following orders and bringing all my kit to training. I,Pte Robert take full responsibility for my actions and will make sure these unacceptable behaviours are immediately eradicated. I understand the importance of following orders and see what effect it could have on the military as a whole if no one followed them. The canadian military consists of men and women who take pride in serving for their country. Professionalism, discipline and integrity are key components that each individual serving today must possese. Each civilian interested in being in the military is required to pass some tests. These test are a medical test, a physical test, and an apptitude test. Not everyone has what it takes to join and there is some people that probably wish they could. So therefore, having the privilege to serve for your country, the feeling of satisfaction you get, you should feel proud of your accomplishment. If you serve your respectable time, the military will have you set for life upon retirement. So who would be silly enough to ruin that opportunity. Not only would it be ruining a perfect opportunity it would also ruin all opportunities with any future government jobs.

I will follow orders and bring all of my kit to training . Bringing all of my kit to training was an order that I shall acknowledge and accomplish.

Thank you for you time.
Pte Robert

Summer time

Who doesn't love the summer ? I have to say it's the best season by far. I love that time of year when, slowly, you start to see people get out. I love that awesome feeling the first time I jump in the water to cool off. Another amazing thing about summer when you're still a kid is that you have all summer off to have fun and relax. Everyone looks forward to summer! Either to go away on a trip with your parents or to be able and sit on your back deck and enjoy the sun. Everyone has their own reasons to love summer but it's hard for anyone to dislike it. Unless of course they're allergic to heat, then I guess they might be winter people. Who can tell me they don't enjoy going to the beach on a nice summer day with a few friends and some coronas to enjoy. Pick up a beach ball and set up a net, you're set for the day as another one of the sun's burn victims. It's okay though, you go home tired, lather on some aloe vera and do it all again. It's really nice to walk out your door without a jacket and pants on. Hotdog stands, ice cream shop, garage sales, etc, all the awesome things that tend to only be out during the summer. I love the summer time and I look forward to getting my tan on this summer whenever I'm not working...Summer is also the season for party's , especially at my age. With the weather being so nice we can have so many more parties then during the winter.Vive l'ete!

Yours truly,

Girls and teachers poisoned in afghan school

120 girls and 3 teachers were sent to a hospital in afghanistan wednesday, after being poisoned by some kind of spray. This incident happened in the provincial capital of Talokhan at a girls school. Some of the girls were hospitalized for quite some time with symptoms such as dizziness , vomiting headaches and loss of consciousness. Blood sample's have been taken from the poisoned girls to determine the substance that made them ill.  The girls sent to the hospital are usually not in critical conditions but rather in great discomfort. The people of Afghanistan know that the terrorists responsible for poisoning these girls. They believe the terrorist do it to threaten girls and keep from going to school. It isn't the first time that Afghanistan has dealt with this issue. Girls have been poisoned after drinking well water in the past.

During the rule of the Taliban from 1996 to 2001 many girls were not allowed to attend school .In 2001, when the regime came to a close due to the U.S led invasion. However, observers say abuse of women remains common in the post-Taliban era and is often accepted in conservative and traditional families, where women are barred from school and sometimes subjected to domestic violence.
