AK-47

The AK-47 is a selective fire ( automatic and semi ) gas operated, 7.62x39mm caliber, assault rifle , first engineered in the USSR. It has a 30 round magazine and is most effective up to 300 meters solo fire. The AK-47 weighs around 5kg's fully loaded. The standard AK-47 fires at a rate of 1200 fps(feet per second). It is gas operated with a rotating bolt and can fire up to 600 rounds per minute. The bolt , which is part of the firing mechanism, does not lock at the rear when the magazine is empty so it's important to make sure it's empty before attempting to walk in front of it. The Ak-47 was designed during the second world war as a sort of hybrid assault rifle in comparison to it's ancestor the M1 Garand /M1 carbine.

Few fun facts about the AK.

1. The AK-47 can be stripped in under one minute and cleaned very quickly. Even if the AK-47 is not cleaned, its still more likely to fire then any of it's rivals given similar treatment on the battlefield. The AK-47 can be operated for years without cleaning. It only consists of 8 moving parts and is not very expensive to make . The AK-47 is so convenient to operate that even a child can be taught how to properly operate it in one hour.

2. There is more then 75 million AK-47  being used in the world today .

3.It is estimated that the total death toll from AK-47 is around 7 -10 million people.

essay on military orders and kit

Importance of following orders and bringing all my kit to training

I was ordered to write this essay on 20 may 2012 by Master Corporal Butterworth because I failed to follow orders and bring all of my kit to training. At the very beginning of our training , we were told to bring every piece of kit issued to us by the queen. I decided that I was only going to bring what was necessary for that weekend. I didn't think that I was going to be able to fit all of my kit in 2 duffle bags and a ruck sack so I did what I thought was practical. I understand that I cannot do that .

What is an order?
An order is a command given by a superior military member requiring obedience, as in the execution of a task.

Following orders is mandatory in the military and failure to do so is a chargeable offence. No matter the importance of the order it must be followed. Following orders also instills discipline within the chain of command. The canadian military does not accept individuals who cannot follow orders. When you are told to do something by anyone of superior command you must do so and keep your mouth shut. Disobeying orders is not only a chargeable offence but it also shows great disrespect to your superiors. Obeying commands is crucial throughout every aspect of the forces and must be learnt at the start (BMQ). The CF must keep a good reputation in the publics eyes. If members are disobeying orders it shows signs of disorganization and                            non- professionalism. I must learn from my mistake and insure that I shall comply with all orders. I understand that failure to do so could result in much worst then a 1000 word essay , such as a fine. I am in no financial state to be paying fines when all I have to do is  obey orders and keep my mouth shut.

I also realize the importance in bringing all of my kit to training. You never know when an instructor might tell you to take out any piece of kit at any given time. You can't predict the weather and never know where you could be sent.

I understand the importance of following orders and bringing all of my kit to training.

Importance of following orders and bringing all my kit to training

On week 2 of military training they told us that we had to bring every last piece of kit that the military issued us. The weekend after ,I didn't bring everything , I didn't think they would notice. It went a few weeks unnoticed. Last week , during inspection, one of my instructors picked up my duffle bags that were underneath my cot. He said it was easy to tell that I didn't have everything in them because he could curl them with ease. It turns out no one on my course brought everything as instructed. So the course officer wrote us all up in the "bad books" and said that we all had to write a 1000 word essay on the importance of following orders and bringing all our kit to training. We also have a detailed kit inspection next weekend as soon as we get there.
My essay will also be posted on my blog

Best time of my life

I miss being a kid. It was so easy. All I thought about was having fun . I had a cottage about an hour away from my hometown . When we would go there on the weekends , when it was nice out of course, I would have so much fun. Come sunday night , I never wanted to leave. I was very fortunate as kid, I travelled to a lot of places and got to see a lot of amazing things. Saturday was always the best night of the week. My mom would wake me up and take me out to do something, then we would come home and have supper. After supper , my mom and I would drive down to the grocery store and pick up some chips, pop, and if I was lucky some candy. Then we would get back home and get all set up for the NHL game at 8 o'clock . I was always so excited to watch the maple leafs play on saturday night. My parents always made me feel older when they would let me stay up till 11 to watch the end of the game.

Another aspect I really miss about being a kid is the amount of energy I always had. I played hockey 4-5 times a week and I played on every school sports team possible. I would be out playing sports all day and nothing could stop me. I never felt the least bit tired doing it either. I would come home at night and just pass out right away. The next morning I was up at 6 o'clock and it didn't phase me one bit. Competitive hockey was the funnest thing I've ever done in my life. I have so many memories to talk about and I can say hockey is something that made who I am today. My friends today all played on my hockey team at some point in time.

I'm not saying that adults don't still have fun but I'm saying that there is a whole lot more to think about and be responsible for when you're all grown up. Every stage in life is a new stage , I'm appreciating every minute of every day because each new experiences is filled with different things and obstacles that I must overcome.

Oh, how I miss the simplicity of being a kid.
